As 2025 comes to a close, we’re proud to share the remarkable progress your support has made possible. Together, we’re expanding access to powerful computing for researchers, students, and communities across North America — while keeping valuable hardware out of landfills.

 This Year’s Highlights

Boosting Canadian Research Capacity

  • myresearchcloud.ca, Canada’s first nonprofit research cloud, is now live — offering flexible, affordable compute to researchers nationwide.

  • We also delivered 640 new CPU cores to strengthen Queen’s University’s Frontenac Supercomputer, helping accelerate breakthroughs in AI, genomics, and climate modeling.

  • This year CFH delivered a cluster of 24 Supermicro servers, each with 8 × NVIDIA 1080 TI GPUs, to McMaster University. The donation helps close a critical gap in Canadian high-performance computing (HPC), giving faculty and students access to the computational capacity needed for advanced simulation, AI, materials science, climate modelling, and health research. This donation strengthens local research capacity in Ontario — benefitting not just the university, but the broader community through breakthroughs in healthcare, sustainability, and technology.

10 Servers to Oregon State University

·       Our donation of 10 refurbished servers is now powering environmental research on coastal ecosystems, pollution, and marine life — giving scientists and students hands-on access to the compute they need.

Building an AI Environment at Cal Poly Pomona

·       Four GPU-equipped servers from CFH are helping students and faculty build a full AI infrastructure from scratch. This “learn-by-doing” environment boosts coursework, research, and workforce-ready skills.

 

Why It Matters

CFH’s mission isn’t just about donating hardware — it’s about enabling research, education and innovation that would otherwise be limited by budget or infrastructure. By repurposing enterprise servers and building cloud platforms, we:

  • Reduce e-waste and give hardware a second life.

  • Empower universities, researchers and students with resources for impactful work.

  • Help drive progress in climate science, AI, health, sustainability — regardless of an institution’s financial capacity.
